The plain finish 18-8 stainless steel sheet metal screw with flat head and pin-in-star plus drive has a Type AB point for forming threads in thin metals between 0.015" and 0.050" thick and resin impregnated plywood, and is made in USA. The Type AB point has the conical tip of a Type A point with the finer spaced threads of a Type B point. The 18-8 stainless steel material provides strength and offers good corrosion resistance in many environments. The material may be slightly magnetic. The flat head is cone shaped for use in countersunk holes and has a flat top that fits flush with the mated surface. The pin-in-star plus drive has a five-pointed indentation with a center pin that resists tampering by requiring a special driver to tighten or loosen the screw.
Sheet metal screws, a type of self-tapping screw, have threads down the entire length of the shank for tapping and fastening thin material. The point style determines the type of material the screw can be used on, such as metal, wood, or plastic. These screws commonly have a sharp point that helps penetrate the material.
