You may have heard about coconut oil pulling, but for those new to the benefits of oil pulling, we've put together a helpful synopsis. If you are interested in supporting naturally whiter teeth, healthier gums, and better oral health, read on to learn all the ways coconut oil pulling can support those pearly whites.
Oil pulling balances mouth bacteria to support normal healthy breath. You can use plain coconut oil, DIY it with essential oils of your choice, or keep it simple and use our peppermint oil infused Oil Pulling Oil.
Coconut oil pulling works because coconut oil is naturally anti-microbial due to the high levels of lauric acid. The lauric acid binds to the microbial cells and then you spit them out, supporting healthy, happy gums.
While it may not be a health concern, we know that having whiter teeth is important to many. The lauric acid is armed for battle with normally occurring stains on teeth caused by the food and drinks we love (hello, coffee with Skinny!)
First thing in the morning, place one tablespoon of Skinny Coconut Oil in your mouth and begin to swish for 5-20 minutes. Without swallowing, move it around your mouth, teeth, and gums as if it were mouthwash but don’t gargle it. The oil will begin to get watery as it mixes with your saliva. Keep swishing. You may also notice that the oil mixture will thicken the longer that you “pull”. When you are new to oil pulling, this can seem like a really long time. It's important to keep at it, as this will make the oil most effective. Try it in the shower and the time will pass much more easily.
After the 5-20 minutes, spit the oil mixture into the toilet or trash can. Rinse out your mouth with warm water and brush your teeth.
