Attar Bazaar was established in 1981 in Santa Fe, New Mexico after my husband and I were introduced to oil-based, non-alcoholic attar perfumes while living in the Near East and India for extended periods.
We originated and developed the market for these Eastern Attars from our shop in Santa Fe where thousands of customers first encountered what are now famous fragrances---Egyptian Musk, Arabian Wild Rose, Tunisian Amber, Tunisian Frankincense---and some 400 other scents from the world over.
Inhaling the aroma of sandalwood is said to send messages to parts of the brain involved in controlling emotions. These messages affect an emotional and physiological response. Despite its calming effects, sandalwood appears to enhance mental alertness. As contradictory as this may seem, sandalwood is believed to deactivate behavioral responses (delivering a calming effect) while activating a physiological response.
