FAQs
Q: Will I know if there is a problem with my vehicle’s engine?
A: Yes, reduced engine power, abnormal sounds or vibrations, and poor fuel economy are all signs that there may be a problem with your vehicle’s engine.
Q: Should I frequently check the engine oil level of my vehicle?
A: Yes, a good rule of thumb is to check the engine oil level at every fuel fill and add oil if necessary.
Q: Can I repair engine malfunctions on my own?
A: No, most engine repairs are best left to a professional technician.
Q: Are there steps I can take to help prevent engine malfunctions?
A: Yes. About once a month make sure all tires are inflated properly and check for any unusual wear or damage, have your vehicle inspected if the ‘Service Engine Soon’ light illuminates, periodically clean the engine's exterior because buildups of oil and dirt can cause the engine to run hot or hide leaks, and check the engine oil level at every fuel fill and add oil if necessary.
Q: If I ignore the ‘Service Engine Soon’ light will there be consequences?
A: Yes, ignoring a ‘Service Engine Soon’ light can cause damage to your engines mechanical components and/or emission system. This damage would not be covered under your vehicle’s warranty. In many situations a ‘Service Engine Soon’ light may also cause poor fuel economy or engine performance concerns. A ‘Service Engine Soon’ light should be checked as soon as possible by a qualified GM certified service technician.
