FROM BROOKLYN TO INDIA AND BACK 

Our humble beginnings began with the manufacturing of our Bklyn Bento stainless steel lunch box; which then lead to us manufacturing our Bklyn Bags lunch bag.  

It's been a long strange trip.  Here's how it all began...

We first learned about stainless steel bento boxes while racing a Rickshaw across India to raise money for the Cool Earth foundation.  

During this 3 week adventure we raced across 2,500km in the Brooklyn Dodger Rickshaw. We zig-zagged our way through remote villages on roads that were either unpaved or riddled with potholes.
 
For a couple of Brooklyn guys, this was not an issue. We've been training on the Belt Parkway and Atlantic Ave for years. 


Midway through our adventure we passed through a rural town on the edge of the Rajasthan Desert, and this is where we met Neeraj. 

Neeraj is a local guy who graced us with his presence while we fixed our Rickshaw on the side of "his" road.
He was a super nice guy, and funny! 

After much debate and lots of laughs he insisted on trading his bento box for my shirt (yes, he took the shirt off my back).  It was a fair trade. It was a nice shirt. 

Fast forward and I'm back in Brooklyn eating out of a metal box… and loving it. 





It did not take long before we realized everyone loved this bento box.
And everyone wanted one; from our co-workers to our childhood friends to strangers in Prospect Park. (Even my ex-boss who had horrible taste liked this thing) 
 

That’s when we decided to begin manufacturing an authentic stainless steel bento box from India and bring it home to Brooklyn, N.Y. for all to enjoy. 

Shortly afterwards we began manufacturing this lunch bag.

We truly love this product, and hope you do too.

Our only regret throughout this journey is not knowing how to contact Neeraj.

WHAT'S THE DEAL WITH THESE BENTO BOXES ANYWAY?


First off, choosing to use a 100% Stainless Steel Food Container (whether it's our brand or someone else's) over disposable plastic is a good thing... for you, me and our sweet %@&#* planet.

As for our Bklyn Bento box, it's 20% LARGER than most bento boxes.

Does that mean it's HUGE???

No, not really. If you eat like a bear, even this large size might be too small. That said, most will find it's a perfect size to pack a nice size lunch.

The following are the capacity dimensions for the Bklyn Bento box:

Bottom Compartment holds: 2-1/8 Cups
Middle Compartment holds: 2 Cups
Top Compartment holds: 1-1/8 Cups

It's also worth noting that just like you; I too love a good hot bowl of soup every now and then. Unfortunately, this Bento Box is not built to hold liquids.

That's because we chose not to use any plastic or rubber sealant, and therefor it's Not Leak Proof (no issues with moist foods like cottage cheese, fruit, salad dressing, etc.). The trade-off to not being Liquid Leak Proof is our Bklyn Bento box is 100% FREE of all Plastic, PVC and PBAs.

We feel that's a good trade off. You'll have to stick with your thermos when craving a soup lunch.


REMEMBER THOSE DAYS WHEN WE USED TO PACK OUR LUNCH IN A BROWN PAPER BAG?


Good memories for us; not so much for the trees.

So what’s the best lunch bag, bento bag or lunch tote out there? Humm… scroll down and you’ll see it! (In Our Humble Opinion :) 

Truth is, we really do love this lunch bag. It's eco safe and it contains No lead, BPA (bisphenol A), phthalates, or PVC. 

Here Are The Finer Details: 

ZIPPITY DUDA: 
This bag has an awesome zipper (one that glides and does not “snag”). We believe this is an important feature and one that sadly gets overlooked by too many manufactures out there. 

STITCHING: 
We also chose a Z-Stich (also known as a Zigzag-stitch) for the bag’s perimeter, around the zipper and for the handle. 
If you’re a seamstress you’ll know this stitch is commonly used on “stretch seams” as it’s a super durable stitch. 

STRONG LIKE BULL: 
This bag can take a beating; it’s super durable. 
In fact, it’s been tested time and time again by my sons who love throwing things. 

A DIRTY LUNCH BAG CAN RUIN YOUR APPETITE: 
Most lunch bags end up getting dirty. I imagine yours will eventually get dirty too. 
No worries. Just throw your bag in the wash (its machine washable). 

TOO BIG OR TOO SMALL: 
Goldilocks would absolutely adore this bag. It’s the perfect size. 
Pack your lunch with enough room left for your water bottle, snack and fruit. 
It’s the perfect size to carry your Bklyn Bento Box to school, work or better yet on a hike. 
In fact, our Bklyn Bag is roomy enough to carry 2 Bklyn Bento Boxes.

Wondering if our bag will fit other manufacturer’s bento boxes? 
Nope. Just ours. 

Just kidding. It will fit our competitor’s bento box too. But why would you even ask that :)
