Sustainability: From Bottle to Bag

All Affenzahn friends aren't just functional, but also fair produced. Our products use fabrics that are made from 50% recycled PET bottles. The empty PET plastic bottles are collected and taken to a recycling plant. In the next step, the bottles are crushed into PET flakes which kind of look like Fruity Pebbles cornflakes.

Washing and melting

Special engineered machines are used to thoroughly clean the flakes of any orange juice or soft drink residue. The PET flakes are melted down and mixed thoroughly. The homogeneous mass reminds us of cake dough.

Weaving and spinning

The “dough” is drawn into long fibers and spun into thread. The finished thread is wound onto spools and transported to the weaving mill. The thread is placed in sophisticated weaving machines and woven into length of white fabric.

Printing and stitching

Patterns are then printed onto the lengths of fabric and both sides are coated to make the fabric water-repellent. The fabric pieces are cut from the patterns and then used to sew our wonderful products.
