It is very important to understand that gold plating requires very gentle care. Remember this and it will last for years!
Remove dirt and oils from your jewelry by using a cotton ball dampened with a bit of alcohol or vinegar. Then gently wipe your jewelry clean and dry it with a microfiber cloth or chamois.
Gold plated jewelry shouldn’t be ever wiped or polished with any coarse fabrics, because you can gradually rub off the plating. It won’t happen in one day, but it gradually will remove the gold layer. This does happen with gold as well, but because it’s gold throughout the piece of jewelry, there is no visible difference except that your jewelry gets slightly thinner over the years.
NEVER clean your plated jewelry with any abrasive substances, coarse sponges or corrosive liquids. Remember, your jewelry isn’t solid gold. And even though Lifetime Jewelry is made with much thicker plating than standard gold-plated jewelry, the gold layer can be worn away over time if cleaned improperly.
FUN FACT: It’s very easy to clean gold plated jewelry with beer! Submerge it for several minutes, then rinse with cool running water, dry with a microfiber cloth and… voilà!
