GM LS Camshaft Types
We often get the question, 'which LS cam type do I need?' Well, that depends.
If you plan to run a three-bolt timing set in a non-vvt vehicle or plan to eliminate VVT, then you want a '54-' prefix camshaft, the left cam in the image to the right.
If your engine is equipped with AFM but not VVT, then look to our 146 or 646 series, the middle cam in the image to the right.
If your engine is equipped with VVT and you plan to retain it, look at our 156, 656, 189 and 689 series camshafts, the right cam in the image to the right.
If you need help identifying the camshaft type in your application, retrieve your vehicle's VIN, call your local dealership to get the engine's RPO then refer to our LS engine application chart.
