Key to Successful Microwave Cooking Learn how to adjust the power level in your microwave. Cooking on high heat can often result in overcooking. For best results, refer to the instruction manual that came with your microwave. To Steam Vegetables • It is important to add at least 2 Tbsp of water on the bottom tray. • Open vent on lid to release steam while cooking and partially close to keep hot air in after cooking. • It is important that the lid does not seal after cooking. • Test every 2 to 3 minutes with a fork to keep your vegetables from over cooking. • Allow to stand for 1-3 minutes after cooking. • Be careful of escaping steam. To Steam Fish • Add 2 Tbsp of water to bottom of steamer. • Cut fish into serving size pieces and place into steamer. • Lightly coat top of fish with butter or oil. • Season to taste with salt and pepper. • Top with fresh lemon juice or slices. • Cover fish and microwave on medium for 3 minutes, check to see if done. • If not done, continue microwaving for 2 minutes or until fish flakes easily with a fork. Other suggestions: • Top with your favorite bread crumb mixture. • Sprinkle with thyme or dill for added flavor
