About Maya Kaimal

Maya Kaimal is the founder of Maya Kaimal Foods. Raised in Boston by a South Indian father and a mother from New England, she grew up in a multi-cultural home filled with delicious and diverse foods. Her father’s Indian cooking combined with trips to visit family in India piqued her interest in that cuisine from a young age. She published two Indian cookbooks that explore the distinctive South Indian cuisine she has come to love.

It’s very different from such well-known varieties as Basmati, jasmine, brown or white rice because-unlike other rice-it is ‘parboiled’ before being de-husked. The resulting grains look like White rice but are harder and contain additional nutrients which get forced from the husk into the grains during the steaming process. Our pouches are a convenient way to enjoy this special varieties are fully cooked and can be microwaved in 90 seconds. Surekha’s mild flavor makes it perfect for enjoying with any meal, Indian or otherwise. We recommend pairing it with our Everyday dals and simmer sauces.
