Plagiocephaly - "Flat Head Syndrome"
Plagiocephaly forms because of the bones of a newborn baby’s head which are thin and flexible, which makes the head soft and changing the shape in an easy way. The flattening of the head in one area may also happen if a baby lies with their head in the same position for a long time. Many babies favor one side.
When the head has a flat spot at the back of the skull, the condition is called brachycephaly. When the skull bones are abnormally positioned, the condition is called synostotic plagiocephaly. Both of these conditions are rare and not as common as the standard (positional) plagiocephaly. The good news is that plagiocephaly can be prevented.
The head shaping pillow is specifically designed to prevent cranial deformities during the baby’s first few months. It should be used for infants that are up to 6 months old. The recommended time for use is when your baby is lying on its back.
