Our grow bags are made from heavy duty non-woven felt. The fabric has a soft, felt-like texture that allows "root pruning" of the plants. How to Use?
Potatoes Growing Tips in a Grow Bag
Prepare Seed Potatoes:
Cut seed potatoes into chunks (about size of lime) having at least 2 eyes each. Allow the pieces to dry and callous over about 2 days. You can plant seed potatoes whole if they are small. Prepare 3-5 seed potatoes for each 10 gallon grow bag.
Pick the site:
All-day sun is best, but as little as 6 to 8 hours will do.
Prepare the soil:
Moisten the soil and compost mix thoroughly. Fill about 1/3 full with a 50/50 mixture of garden soil and compost.
Plant the bag:
Evenly space 3 to 5 seed potatoes and/or pieces (“eyes up”) and cover with 3 inches of soil.
Care:
As the potatoes continue growing, continue adding soil/compost mix until you reach the top of the grow bag. Water regularly. The soil should feel moist, not soggy.
Harvest Potatoes:
It requires 7 to 8 weeks to mature completely. Look for signs when the leaves start yellowing and the stems wilt. At this point, stop watering and wait a week or two to harvest. Harvest the potatoes from access flap, take the big ones out and keep the small potatoes to grow up.
