What is it?

The Suspension Ride Height Sensor is an electronic device that measures the distance between the road and a particular point on the vehicle's suspension, chassis or body. Based on the output of the sensor, the Engine Control Unit (ECU) makes the compressor determine whether to fill or release air from the air bags. The ride height sensor sends signals to the ECU, which causes the suspension to react while driving over bumps or due to heavy loads on the vehicle to provide a smoother ride.

Proper ride height is a critical factor in maintaining a healthy air suspension system, as well as a safe and comfortable ride for vehicle passengers. To achieve this, ride height sensors constantly monitor vehicle height, making adjustments to the system to compensate for additional weight or changing road conditions. As an integral component in the air suspension system, these sensors must be replaced when they fail to avoid future damage to other parts in the system.

How to Replace Suspension Ride Height Sensor?

Step 1: Locate the ride height control module. The ride height control module may be located in one of many places depending on the vehicle. Some are located inside the dash, some on the inner fender, or under the vehicle.

Step 2: Disconnect the negative battery cable.

Step 3: Remove the control module electrical connector(s).

Step 4: Remove the control module fasteners.

Step 5: Remove the control module from the vehicle.

Step 6: Mount the new seat switch in position.

Step 7: Reinstall the electrical connector(s). Make sure they are attached as before.

Step 8: Reinstall the control module fasteners.

Step 9: Reconnect the negative battery cable. Make sure to tighten it down.
