What Causes Your Belgian Malinois' Dry Nose
Many Belgian Malinois have a somewhat dry nose. This can be caused by low household humidity levels, living in an arid climate, certain medications or breed predisposition.
If your dog’s nose is covered with layers of dry crust they may have an extreme dryness condition called Nasal Hyperkeratosis. Nasal Hyperkeratosis is a nose tissue overgrowth which results in a nose covered with crusty skin. While not life-threatening, this condition can affect your dog's mental, emotional and physical health. The good news is Nose Butter works on all levels of dryness from just a bit to nasal hyperkeratosis.

Breed Pre-disposition Toward Nasal Dryness
Of course any dog can have a dry nose, but certain breeds seem to be prone to this condition. Breeds such as Bulldogs, French Bulldogs, Pugs, Boxers, Mastiffs, American Bulldogs, Belgian Malinois, German Shepherds, Collies, Pekingese, plus more breeds and mixes are susceptible to nose dryness.
Our research has led us to believe Nasal Hyperkeratosis is an expression of a slightly depressed immune system. Many of the breeds prone to this condition are extreme in one or more ways.
Extremely flat-faced, bully, small, large, heavy boned or chunky bodied breeds all seem to have a predisposition to nasal dryness.
While your Malinois doesn't fit those parameters, several of the working/herding breeds have this propensity.

How Nose Butter Helps Your Belgian Malinois’ Overall Well-Being
A chronically dry nose can lead to your Belgian Malinois not living their life fully. Dogs as intelligent and driven as the Malinois have to be able to make snap decisions, lives can literally depend on it.
Your dog's nose grabs smells that float by and sends them to the scent sorters in his nose where they are categorized as urgent or not. This gives him the info needed to make decisions.
Think of it like this, how do you feel when you have No Signal on your phone as you drive in an unfamiliar area at night? That's how your Malinois feels when they can't snag the smells that bring them info!
Stressed, off-balance and anxious.
