What hook size are these flies?

These flies are tied on hook size #8 and #10 premium Daiichi long shank dry fly fishing hooks. Daiichi manufactures some of the best fly hooks in the world. These hooks are made of high carbon steel, which are hardened, tempered and chemically sharpened.

Any tips on using these flies?

Try fishing these dry flies casting upstream and carefully stripping the line in as the fly floats back downstream past likely holding spots. Practice not allowing any un-natural drag from the leader to affect the fly - you want your fly to ride the current naturally as a live insect would - just give them an occasional realistic twitch to imitate a grasshopper caught in the current. You can also splash them against undercut banks or river edges where hoppers naturally land in the water during the heat of summer. These high floating foam body hoppers are also excellent strike indicator flies - try using a small bead head Copper John or other bead head nymph tied 2-3 feet below the hopper.
