Rebound Bumper:

A high strength polyurethane bumper that helps control the rebound motion of the Shock in harsh driving conditions. This mechanism within the Shock greatly reduces the wear and tear during off-road driving, as well as oversized potholes and bumps. When your Shock rebounds from a large obstacle at an excessive rate, this polyurethane bumper dampens the piston rod cycle at the peak point of travel. Without this bumper, a harsh metal-to-metal contact would occur along with an accelerated down motion to the compression cycle of the Shock commonly known as 'topping out'. Both actions

(topping out and bottoming out) greatly increase a Shocks failure rate, not to mention ride quality and vehicle handling.
