Don’t underestimate the importance of a pet’s food and water bowls. Some foreign made bowls have tested positive for lead and some have even been recalled due to radioactive contamination. At Basis Pet, our primary focus is safety. Thats why we source only U.S. made stainless steel that has passed extensive metallurgical analysis, confirming it’s identity as a 304 series stainless steel (also called 18-8 stainless steel). But we don't stop there.
Did you know that there are 100’s of different grades of stainless steel? Some grades of stainless steel cost a lot more than others because they contain higher concentrations of chromium and nickel - the 2 components of stainless steel that help to make it hygienic and resistant to corrosion. We use only 304 series stainless steel, also referred to as 18-8 stainless steel. It’s the grade most commonly used in kitchen wares and the right choice for pet food bowls.
No “pet use only” labels here - all of our bowls are manufactured in the U.S. right alongside products for human use. Feel free to pick up some extra bowls for you and your family! In fact, we go even further than whats done for products intended for human use. After manufacture, a bowl from every batch is tested for heavy metals (lead, mercury, and cadmium) by an independent lab that is third party accredited by the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). We also screen each new batch for radioactivity prior to sale.
Function and Style Matter, Too
Our bowls aren’t flimsy. You won’t be able to flex them with your hands. We use heavy-weight, 22 gauge stainless steel. We've also designed our bowls with rounded inside bottom corners that make it easier for your pet to finish every bit of food and easier for you to clean. Our bowls may be washed by hand or in the dishwasher.
We're often asked why we don't apply a non-skid rubber coating to the bottom of our bowls. Such coatings require industrial adhesives, which may or may not be safe around pets, and these coatings can also fade, stain, crack, or peel away over time. We find that you can achieve as good or better performance by using a separate non-skid rubber mat under your bowls, if needed, or a full size stand for the most aggressive eaters in the pack.

Unfortunately, it's unlikely that our bowls will fit a stand from another manufacturer, but it's not impossible. To check, start by measuring the diameter of the opening in your current stand or holder (don't measure your current bowls - measure the opening in the stand). That measurement must match the values listed below. Our bowls have a small lip around them, so the values must match exactly.
- For small bowls - diameter of opening must be 5 1/2"
- For medium bowls - diameter of opening must be 6 1/8"
- For large bowls - diameter of opening must be 7 1/2"
- For extra large bowls - diameter of opening must be 10 1/16"
