The Lachaal family has passionately partaken in the care and cultivation of olive trees in the small Mediterranean country of Tunisia for over 300 years. It is a labor of love that culminates in the production of fine tasting extra virgin olive oil born of ancient family traditions, an endeavor long abandoned in many regions of the world.

Our "Mature Harvest" extra virgin olive oil offering is an extra virgin olive oil produced from premium, ripe Chemlali olives at the peak of the harvest season in November into December. It has a light, smooth exchange with the palate with a full bodied, robust finish. There are exciting nuances of green apple, almond, and artichoke that change by season.

Our traditional methods of farming and olive cultivation have been passed through the generations with a few modern updates that have allowed us to hold onto a way of life which is a tremendous source of pride for our family. All of the trees are individually cared for, clearing undergrowth, pruning and trimming in the preseason with great attention. During the harvest all of the trees are hand harvested using drop cloth nets, handmade olive wood ladders, and hollowed out horns placed on your fingers as claws to then comb the olives off of their branches gracefully as to not harm the fruit or its precious nectar, the oil.

All of the olives are then put into crates and brought to the mill where they are inspected based on quality and milled within 24 hours in select "first cold pressing" batches based on which lot of land they came from. This allows us to maintain the integrity of the olives and keep records that allows us to better our efforts each season.

All of our methods have been "organic" in spirit from the start. Whatever nature provides is what we are blessed with. Our new product line which will launch 2019/2020 season will have multiple extra virgin olive oils based on olive variety and will be all organic certified

Our product packaging is a beautiful reflection of Tunisian culture. Using a hand painted tile motif that is found decorating the interiors as well as exteriors of homes throughout the country, the color palette chosen provides a wonderful connection to our homeland. The blue tile was a wave to the Mediterranean Sea and the yellow face reminiscent of the prominent Mediterranean Sun.

Domaine Lachaal Olive Oil was founded in 1998 by Dr. Mohsen Lachaal. A respected clinical nephrologist and basic science researcher, medicine was his first passion and his career choice, but a diagnosis of multiple myeloma, a relativley rare bone marrow cancer, forced him to leave his practice of medicine. An eternal optimist and an entrepreneur at heart, Dr. Mo saw the opportunity to import branded Tunisian extra virgin olive oil as his next venture. His vision allowed him to pursue another of his life's passions and maintain the bonds with his family back home in Tunisia. Olive cultivation and the traditional time tested olive oil production had been a source of pride for his family for generations and he was so moved to be able to share the fruits of their labor well beyond the borders of his homeland.

In 2016, six years after Dr. Mo passed away, his eldest son left his career in New York City to move back to Tunisia to immerse himself in the culture and learn every facet of the family tradition of caring for and cultivating olive trees as well as the production of premium olive oil. His intent was the same as his father's, providing the finest quality extra virgin olive oil to markets worldwide.

So the story and tradition continues. Our hope is to provide Tunisian extra virgin olive oil of the highest caliber, a Lachaal family tradition we hold dear.
