FAQs: Stargazer Perennials Organic Iceberg Climbing Rose Bush White Rose Container Grown

Are these plants non-GMO?
Stargazer Perennials does not grow using any Genetically Modified Organisms. In addition, our plant production nursery is annually certified virus-free and pest-free by the Oregon Department of Agriculture.

Can I grow these in the pots they come in?
The 5" x 2.5" plastic pots these herbs are grown in are a starter size. For good rose production they should each be repotted into a separate pot (minimum 12" and up to 24" if grown on an outside deck). They will grow best planted outside in the garden in well-drained fertile soil in USDA Zones 5 and up.

How are your roses grown?
Newly planted roses start off in the warm greenhouse and are transferred outside to the growing grounds once rooting appears. The roses will undergo several trimmings during the growing season to promote proper branching and strong roots. Once outside in the elements the roses begin to harden off and develop stronger canes and more resilient root systems. During this rose growing stage, roses are foliar fed every 2-3 weeks with a kelp and alfalfa tea mixture. A final trim is given to encourage a flush of new growth before the roses are ready for shipping and planting in your garden.

What are the advantages of roses grown on their own root rather than grafted?
1. Healthier plants with higher disease resistance than grafted roses. Own root roses are more vigorous, hardier plants with healthier, more pliable root systems, which allow the rose to quickly adapt to new environments, thus producing blooms faster than grafted varieties.
2. No root-stock suckers will emerge from the base of the rose or at the graft union. Own root roses will produce new basal growth at the base of the rose resulting in a larger, more vigorous bush with more canes. Even if your own root rose freezes back to the soil level, or is accidentally cut down, it will re-sprout true to type.
3. Improved winter hardiness: No more worrying about your rose surviving a harsh winter when a rose is planted in its proper zone. Own root roses are especially advantageous in regions where winters bring freezing temperatures. Because there is no graft or bud union, if the plant freezes above ground, its roots will still thrive.
4. Virus free! Grafted roses are very susceptible to the Rose Mosaic virus that can be transmitted during grafting.
5. Durable, healthy roses that develop more canes, which means more flowers! No fussy trimming required with these tough roses, instead just trim back to promote new foliage and blooms.
