SILK VS. SATIN
- NATURAL VS SYNTHETIC - Silk is an all-natural fabric created by silk worms. Satin is a type of weave that can be made from any fabric, but is most often made from synthetic polyester. Synthetic fabrication involves chemicals that often pollute the environment and can trigger skin or breathing sensitivities.
- WHY SILK COSTS SO MUCH MORE - True silk costs more than polyester satin because the process of making silk is dependent on the metamorphosis of the silk worm. Silk is made of pure animal protein. The process takes about 2 months, and about 2500 silkworms to produce just one pound of raw silk. Polyester is much cheaper because it is an artificial petroleum product.
- APPEARANCE - Satin and silk seem similar at first glance, but satin is very glossy and slippery, while silk has a more subtle pearl-like sheen.
- NATURAL PROPERTIES OF SILK – Like other natural fabrics, silk has temperature-regulating properties and is hypoallergenic -- it is more breathable than man-made fabrics, including satin. Beyond its fabrication, satin polyester actually harms the environment when washed, by distributing micro-plastics into the water system. Silk, on the other hand, is a natural fabric and is biodegradable / compostable.
- DURABILITY – Silk has higher tensile strength than steel, and is thus capable of lasting much longer than satin polyester.

Our women’s silk pajama set comes in a wide range of sizes to accommodate all body types. Please see our size chart above for the most accurate sizing information.
- PETITE - Recommended for those who are 5’4” and under. Petite PJ pant inseam is approximately 27” long and top is 24” long.
- REGULAR - PJ pant inseam is approximately 29” long and top is 26” long. Model in light blue PJs is 5’9” and is wearing size XS.
- PLUS - Plus sizes 2X and 3X are available, as well as petite-plus sizes 2XP and 3XP. Model in dark blue PJs is 6’0” and is wearing size 3X.
CARING FOR SILK
- MACHINE WASH with cold water in delicate cycle. Use mild detergents. Do not use bleach or other harsh chemicals because they can damage the animal protein. Mesh washing bags are strongly recommended as they provide extra protection.
- HAND WASHING is the recommended method for cleaning silk. Although silk fiber is very strong, it is still a natural fabric and needs to be handled with care.
- DRYING - Silk should be hung to dry. Heat can cause shrinkage and damage many expensive fabrics, and silk is no exception. Protect the fabric and it will last for years.
