It depends on the terrain around you as VHF/UHF is generally line of sight, But with this 5 watts Walkie Talkie ,it is a solid 2-3 miles in a city (UHF is best in congested areas), 5-7 miles in low hilly/forested terrain and up to 20-25 miles mountain top to mountain top (line of sight). A good aftermarket longer antenna from a Ham radio store will add to the performance.
