The Design

In 2009, Dopper reusable water bottle founder Merijn Everaarts watched a documentary about the garbage patch floating in the ocean and thought: "I have to do something about this!” Merijn specifically sought to address the issue of wasteful, single-use water bottles that are thrown away every day- even though in many countries the best drinking water simply comes from the tap. In 2010 he organized a competition in the Netherlands to design the perfect reusable water bottle. The winner was a beautiful, easy to clean bottle that doubles as a cup and carafe. On October 10th, 2010 – 'Durability Day' in the Netherlands – the first Dopper water bottles were sold. Since then, the Dopper reusable water bottle has become part of everyday life in the Netherlands. In 2015, Dopper water bottles were introduced to the USA as a partnership with Preserve products. Dopper believes our our responsibility goes beyond our own faucets. The Dopper Foundation was founded in 2013 with a mission to increase active awareness regarding the impact of single-use plastic waste, and help provide access to safe drinking water worldwide. The Dopper Foundation allocates 5% of its net proceeds to programs that create new sources of clean drinking water and provide education about sanitation to families in developing countries. Currently the Dopper Foundation is working in Nepal with local partners to improve drinking water and sanitation through the installation of safe drinking water and sanitation systems. To ensure these projects are provide long-term solutions, participants learn about the importance of clean drinking water and system maintenance.
