What are Simulated Gemstones?
Simulated Gemstones are made of a material that resembles the appearance of a natural gemstone but has different chemical and physical properties. Simulated stones are usually made of faceted glass, molded plastic or reconstituted genuine material.
Some simulated opaque gemstones, like reconstituted turquoise, can be made of genuine material that has been ground into a fine powder, mixed with a binding agent and formed into a mold that can then be shaped into a new stone. This process is useful to make a stone with improved color, texture and durability.
