INNOVATIVE, EFFECTIVE, SIMPLE
How did you come up with the idea for this product?
After years of ruining our high heels at weddings, we decided to do something about it. The initial idea struck Becca at her high school prom. It was her first time wearing high heels and as she stumbled and sank into the grass in an attempt to take photos, she thought to herself, "there must be a better way." A decade later, we were sitting next to each other in graduate school at Columbia University. We each needed business plans to create for a class and Becca turned to me and shared her idea. Immediately, I thought about the condition of the heels in my closet (and likely whatever I was wearing that day) and how they were all chewed up and grass stained. I loved the idea of being able to protect my own heels and thought, if I would buy it, maybe other people would too.
What makes your product special?
As the expression goes, necessity is the mother of all invention. We had a problem and so we created a simple but effective solution. Our product is patented and the patent has a lot to do with the function of our elegant design. The hourglass shape of our product is among the reasons it works so well and is as optically appealing as it is. The proprietary material that we source to create our product is also an important factor. It's flexible, crystal clear, and incredibly strong.
What has been the best part of your experience?
Being entrepreneurs is scary but fun. Having invented a product that is helping so many women have better experiences in their high heeled shoes is pretty cool. There was no such thing as a "Heel Protector" when we wrote the business plan in graduate school. For years, when we told people what we did, they looked at us as though we were crazy. As we have slowly, but with certainty, grown our idea into a business and into a brand, we look back with pride and gratitude on what we have accomplished and with excitement for what lies ahead.
