Hassan's Marrakech Workshop
The artisanal craft of creating a Moroccan leather pouf requires many steps and multiple skilled workers. We source our poufs from select artisans whom we trust to produce beautiful handmade poufs worthy of your home or workplace.
Below, we've highlighted one of our artisans, Hassan, and some of the steps involved in his creation of our poufs.
Hassan has been an independent artisan crafting leather poufs for over 35 years, and has earned an excellent reputation for the quality of his work. He is married with one daughter and one grandchild.
To craft his leather poufs, Hassan sources the leather, cuts all the pieces, and glues backing to the pieces that require it. He hires woman artisans to hand-stitch the side pieces together, with hand-crocheted trim in all of the seams. They also hand-embroider the top panel designs. Hassan then sews the top panels into the poufs. Hassan or hired artisans attach the bottom panels with piping at the seams. The only step in which a sewing machine is used is attaching the bottom zippers.
