The AmScope H800-CCD-VGA monocular inspection microscope with video camera has a 0.4x C-mount camera adapter, a 0.7x-5.0x zoom objective, and an 11x-80x zoom range. The 2MP VGA camera has a CCD color sensor and an RS-232 output to display live video images on a computer or projector. The microscope has a 12.9 x 17.1mm maximum field of view and a 1.8 x 2.4mm minimum field of view. The working distance is 4-1/8" (105mm). Ambient lighting illuminates the specimen, eliminating the need for power or batteries. The microscope stand has an 11" pillar and a 13 x 10" table (W x D, where W is width, the horizontal distance from left to right; D is depth, the vertical distance from front to back). A handheld stand microscope, sometimes called a shop microscope, is used in field, lab, and quality control applications, and in home and educational settings.
The included AmScope CCD-MT 1680 x 1050 video camera has a 1/3" Sony color CCD sensor for displaying live video or a TV screen or monitor. The camera has four user-selectable resolutions, including 1024 x 768, 1280 x 1024, 1440 x 900, and 1600 x 1200. User-defined parameters include brightness, gain, automatic or manual exposure selection, freeze frame, negative image projection. Automatic white balance and a low-lux setting make the camera suitable for use with low-light applications, and a crosshair cursor enables users to pinpoint areas of interest. The camera has an RS-232 connection cable and uses a 110V-120V power supply (cable and power cord included). The metal housing protects components from damage.
The removable 96-bulb LED ring light provides bright, cool light for working with temperature-sensitive or live specimens. The ring light provides shadow-free illumination, and a rheostat controls the amount of light emanating from the lamp. Power and adjustment controls are located on a control box to speed adjustments. It has a 100,000-hour life span and a 110V-240V variable power supply.

Microscopes are instruments used to enhance the resolution of an object or image. Types include compound, stereo, or digital. Compound microscopes use a compound optical system with an objective lens and an eyepiece. Stereo microscopes show object depth in a three-dimensional image. Digital microscopes are used to display an image on a monitor, rather than looking through a lens. Microscopes can have monocular (one), binocular (two), or trinocular (three) eyepieces, with varying magnification abilities. Magnification ability refers to the size of an image. Resolution, also known as resolvant power, refers to the clarity of the image. The interaction between field of view (FOV), numerical aperture (NA), and working distance (WD) determines resolution. Microscopes can control magnification through a fixed focus, or through a range of adjustments. They can also utilize LED, fluorescent, and mirror light sources to help control viewing capabilities. Microscopes are widely used in education, lab research, biology, metallurgy, engineering, chemistry, manufacturing, and in the medical, forensic science, and veterinary industries.
United Scope manufactures microscopy equipment and accessories under the brand name AmScope. The company, founded in 1996, is headquartered in Irvine, CA.
