How to Descale Your Single Cup Coffee Maker
Wear protective gloves. Protect countertops from possible spills or splashes. Unplug your machine and empty the reservoir once the water has cooled. Fill the coffee maker reservoir with cold water, adding 1 ounce of Bar Keepers Friend Coffee Maker Cleaner for every 8 ounces of water. Remove the disposable pod from the coffee maker. Place a ceramic mug under the discharge. To expedite cleaning, use a cup with the same capacity as your machine’s largest cup-brewing volume. Initiate the brew cycle (you may need to repeat this step several times to completely empty the reservoir, depending on the size of your coffee maker). After the reservoir is empty, fill it with cold water and initiate the brew cycle to rinse, repeating the brew cycle until the reservoir is empty again. Add fresh water before brewing your next cup of coffee. Repeat the descaling and cleaning process monthly (or sooner, if hard water deposits dictate)
