You can easily change the color rings on the XLR connectors
The shells of these XLR connectors we use, are made from die-cast steel, not stamped. The upper, fluted section is made of a tough durable plastic, plus a rubber shoulder.
During assembly, this part tightens onto the shell, via a chuck-type strain relief, preventing the cable from being pulled out of the connector. This is a much more reliable type of strain relief than the standard xlr connectors that simply use a set screw.
These connectors also feature a colored ring. This makes it easier to identify which cable is which, in a live gig, or in a recording studio. If you have other Vitrius Cables, you can easily swap these color rings (no un-soldering required). Just unscrew the fluted part and carefully remove the outer shell. Swap the color rings and re-assemble in reverse order.
Using Vitrius XLR Cables in a Powered Speaker setup
Many customers ask if these cables can be used with power amplifiers. The short answer is 'no', but here's the qualifier:
If you're using powered speakers, (like from a mixer or pre-amp to the powered speakers), then, yes, you can use these Vitrius XLR cables, as long as both the mixer and the powered speaker have balanced 3-pin XLR connections.
However, if you're thinking of using these XLR cables to connect directly from a power amplifier to your un-amplified speakers, using an adapter, this is a no-go. The wire gauge of these inner conductors is not large enough to carry the prodigious current of the power amp. For this, you need heavy, 12 to 14 gauge speaker cables, usually using Speakon connectors.
