If your answer is (A) the Viper Roof Roll (4pk) is exactly what you need! For best results, make sure your gutter is clear of leafs and any possible fall build up. Place the roof roll directly in the gutter where your downspouts are located. The sleeve contains CMA which is a chloride and salt free ice melt alternative that will not stain shingles or cause any corrosion to your gutters, downspouts, aluminum siding etc. It will not harm vegetation, it is safe for your pets and the little ones running about playing in the snow.
If your answer is (B) then we first need to take care of the build up of ice that has occurred. Further evaluation is necessary. What is your roof made of? What possible roof components will be susceptible to chloride based ice melts? (sodium chloride: rock salt, calcium chloride, magnesium chloride, etc) These ice melt options will melt ice. Sometimes they can take up to 10 minutes to melt the ice but chloride based ice melts can cause staining of the shingles and corrosion to gutters, downspouts, aluminum siding, fasteners, and be harmful to vegetation (from run-off), pets and floors. Our chloride free liquid ice melt, Viper Elite, starts clearing surfaces by breaking down ice molecules instantly. With a freezing point of -76F, when sprayed or poured above where an ice dam has already occurred, you will immediately start to see channels building underneath the ice dam. Once completely removed, you will then want to place your Viper Roof Rolls appropriately. Viper Elite Liquid Ice Melt will leave a residual (non staining) layer of potassium acetate that will also work in conjunction with the CMA from the Viper Roof Roll Ice Dam Prevention (4pk). These products, when used appropriately do not allow for ice to adhere to the surface. Whether it is a roof, gutters, your downspout or new concrete on your driveway, these products can be used for pretreating surfaces before a storm or managing them after. With correct usage and application they also both require much fewer applications than your normal ice melt chloride based options. The fact that they are noncorrosive, non toxic, chloride and salt free are simply further added benefits. Do yourself a favor, decrease your workload while upgrading your ice melt options.
If you have been one of the many residential and even commercial homes or businesses severely impacted by an ice dam (whether your roof caved in, your entire living room became a swimming pool or your business was shut down for days and maybe never again operable) then you are absolutely going to think twice about something as simple as a necessary commodity "that just melts ice."
