A brief interview with L.T. Vargus
What inspired you to write the Violet Darger series?
I've always been fascinated by serial killers - watching interviews, reading books. I like to explore the best and worst in people. I get to do both with this series.
Is it uncomfortable to write from the perspective of a serial killer?
It's not necessarily pleasant, but I think it's helpful to understand the psychology behind the behavior. I want to know where the violent urges and impulses come from, why some people act on them and others don't.
What do you think draws readers to this type of book?
It's a way to explore the darkest parts of society. The real villains in the world aren't possessed or spouting one-liners like Freddy Krueger. They're regular people who happen to be capable of awful things. And they're part of humanity, part of us. I think that's what a lot of people are looking for in stories. They want to acknowledge the darkness and find a way to deal with it.
