Dangers of Carbon Monoxide and Natural Gas – The Silent Killers
Often called the silent killer, carbon monoxide poisoning can be confused with flu symptoms, food poisoning and other illnesses. Carbon monoxide is undetected by humans or animals and can be fatal, causing death within minutes. Every year, thousands more people across the United States require emergency medical care for non-fatal carbon monoxide poisoning that can be debilitating (CDC).
Medical experts believe that pregnant women, children and senior citizens are at even greater risk for CO poisoning. Many homes with carbon monoxide alarms do not have alarms on every level. The CPSC recommends that one CO alarm be installed in the hallway outside the bedrooms in each separate sleeping area of the home.
