When it comes to choosing parts for steering & suspension systems, turn to Delphi. In the US and Canada, we’re known for our fuel management program, but in Europe we are known in steering and suspension. And of course, we’re known all over the globe for our rich OE heritage. Now we’re bringing our steering portfolio to North America, and we’re focused on imports. Delphi builds steering & suspension parts for your European and Asian vehicles.
What sway bar links do
Sway bar links help prevent excessive leaning during turns and keep the vehicle stable by linking the sway bar, also known as the stabilizer or anti-roll bar, to the suspension components.
The sway bar rotates as the vehicle turns, stressing sway bar links and bushings. If a sway bar link wears out over time, it needs to be replaced for safe handling of the vehicle. Delphi sway bar links are fatigue-tested to avoid failure, with anti-corrosion cataphoretic coating applied for a long lifespan.
Here are some simple tests to diagnose suspension problems:
Check all of the mounting nuts and bolts to be sure the problem isn’t being caused by looseness.
Inspect any visible parts such as bushings, ball joints, and steering linkages. If you see any damage it will need to be serviced or replaced.
Shake the steering wheel quickly, turning it left and right ninety degrees. There should be no excessive free play or knocking noises. If the car has power steering, do this with the engine running. Check rack and pinion as well as associated parts. If any of them are damaged, the part needs to be replaced.
When raising the vehicle, use a lift or jacks approved for the weight of the vehicle.
Always tighten components to their correct torque as specified by the vehicle manufacturer in its loaded position, not wheel-free, to prevent additional stress when the vehicle is lowered to the ground.
Designed to restore performance, the new replacement parts will have less play and will set the wheels at a slightly different angle.
Check the wheel alignment after replacing any steering or suspension component to prevent excessive tire wear.
