Our masala chai comes from a family recipe that features exotic spices– Staranise, Cardamom, Cloves, Cinnamon, Pepper, and Ginger. We add them to our tea whole – only crushing some slightly to improve brewing.

For the tea in this blend, we use organic Assam CTC grown on our family estate, Chota Tingrai (27.458869 N, 95.354856 E). India’s authentic chai makers—from the humblest of Kolkata’s street vendors to the ritziest of Mumbai’s hotels—mix this style of tea with their masalas because its strong bold taste will not succumb to the power of the spices.

About Mana's Organic Managment

We nurture every plant with 100% organic compost made on the tea estate. We personally oversee the production of all our organic inputs. We use all the tea estate’s agricultural waste to create a closed loop system that maintains our natural resource balance. We plant green manuring plants to increase soil fertility. And we make several tons of vermi-compost annually to increase soil carbon content and microbial activity in the soil.

All organic sections managed by Mana are free of chemical pesticides. We encourage biodiversity of the ecosystem that helps maintain the natural balance. Our pest management is integrated with several physical traps, natural predators and bio-controls that help eliminate pests without disturbing the natural biodiversity.

All this reduces our impact the environment, preserves the soil for future generation, and improves the taste of our tea!

About Chota Tingrai Tea Estate

Established in 1943, Chota Tingrai Tea Estate is a family-owned tea estate located in the Tinsukia district of Assam. It currently spans 1400 acres, and is home to 600 families with a total population of 2200. Chota Tingrai Tea Estate manufactures Assam black teas, and Japanese-style green teas.

With the help of Mana Organics, Chota Tingrai Tea Estate implements social projects in its worker community. We encourage a healthy, engaged and happy community. We ensure fair and equal opportunity to all and continue to improve our social welfare systems to create a progressive, self-sustaining, strong community.

Social projects to date include the introduction of a waste disposal system, the construction of new bathrooms and drainage, and supplementary education materials.

Directions

Indian Style: 1. Add 1 full teaspoon of Mana Organics Masala Chai to a saucepan of boiling water (150 ml per serving). 2. Add milk and sugar as desired to saucepan. 3. Simmer for 2 - 3 minutes. 4. Strain and serve. Enjoy!

American Style: 1. Add 1 full teaspoon (3 g) of Mana Organics Masala Chai to your favor pot or infuser. 2. Pour boiling water (150 ml per serving) over tea. 3. Steep for 4 - 5 minutes. Remove tea. 4. Add sugar and warmed milk to taste.
