Sun Protection Factor (SPF) is a measure of protection from UVB rays. Any dermatologist will tell you that SPF 30 is the minimum needed for daily protection. For a day outdoors, we recommend SPF 50, and don’t forget to re-apply at least every 2 hours!

Broad spectrum protection

When it comes to sun protection, most people tend to think only about sunburns, which are caused by UVB (burning) rays. But the truth is, you’re also getting an entirely different type of damage from UVA (aging) rays, which penetrate through clouds on overcast days and even through windows. These rays enter the skin’s surface even more deeply, leading to signs of aging (wrinkles, uneven skin tone, all those little things you don’t love about your skin) and are also the major culprits when it comes to skin cancer. Make sure you look for broad spectrum to ensure you are getting UVA protection - and all of Supergoop!’s formulas are, of course.

SPF goes way beyond the beach and is something you should wear every. single. day. You also need to reapply it every two hours (or more if you happen to be swimming or sweating). Supergoop! recommends a shot-glass-full of SPF for your entire body - and that includes about a dime-sized amount for your face.
