The brazed carbide tip and steel body provide increased strength and stability for high speeds in high feed-rate applications when compared to solid carbide drill bits. The titanium nitride (TiN) coating offers increased wear resistance, extended tool life, and higher hardness than an uncoated drill bit. The 140-degree point geometry is recommended for chamfering holes and drilling holes for tapping.

This short length drill bit has a drilling depth of 3.5 times its diameter and provides the strength and rigidity necessary for heavy-feed rate applications. The cylindrical shank with flat promotes better tool grip than a standard round shank and drills more precise holes than shanks with multiple flats. It has a chamfer and relief groove on the end to guide the shank into the chuck for proper placement. The shank is labeled with diameter, carbide grade, code number, and batch number for identification and traceability, and is made to International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 9766 specifications. The drill bit has internal channels that guide coolant through the body to the drill bit tip for high feed rates and speeds and continuous clearing of chips from the cutting edge. To utilize the coolant-through feature, the drilling machine must have a coolant-through spindle.
